Granholm Announces Appointments to Northern Michigan University, Western Michigan University Boards of Control

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the boards of control for Northern Michigan University and Western Michigan University:
Northern Michigan University Board of Control
Larry C. Inman of Williamsburg, Grand Traverse county commissioner, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2010. He succeeds Alan T. Ackerman who has resigned.
L. Garnet Lewis, Ph.D. of Freeland, associate director of professional education at Central Michigan University, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2016. She succeeds Mary C. Lukens whose term has expired.
H. Sook Wilkinson, Ph.D. of Bloomfield Hills, a psychologist in private practice, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2016. She succeeds Samuel S. Benedict who has resigned.
Western Michigan University Board of Control
James F. Hettinger of Fennville, former president and CEO of Battle Creek Unlimited, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2016. He succeeds Daniel Pero whose term has expired.
The duties of university boards of control include general supervision of the university, control of direction of all expenditures from university funds, the right to sue and be sued, and to adopt a seal and to alter it if desired.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
