Governor Granholm Announces Appointments to Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council

LANSING- Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council:
Sheila R. Ashcraft of Pontiac, former president of Ashcraft Consulting, is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011. She succeeds Kathryn D. Wyeth whose term has expired.
Brenda H. Keillor of Midland, environmental health and safety director with The Dow Chemical Company, is appointed to represent parents or guardians of individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011. She succeeds Kristine E. Copeland whose term has expired.
Constance L. Kiggins of Mears, civic volunteer, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011. She succeeds Diana S. Miller who has resigned.
Barbara A. Barton of Kalamazoo, assistant professor with the Western Michigan University School of Social Work, is reappointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Norma T. Bauer of Perry, case manager with Livingston County Michigan Works!, is reappointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) represents the interests of people with disabilities across Michigan. The council collaborates with the Michigan Commission for the Blind and Michigan Rehabilitation Services to develop and submit the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). The SILC also monitors, evaluates, and reports on implementation of the SPIL.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
