Governor meets with Denso executives to encourage company to expand in state
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm concluded her ninth overseas investment mission and fourth visit to Japan today, meeting with company leaders from Denso to encourage the company to expand in Michigan. Denso presently has facilities in Battle Creek and Southfield.
During the mission, the governor also met with key executives considering locating alternative energy projects in Michigan and spoke at the 2009 Japan-Midwest U.S. Association Conference in Tokyo.
"The recent announcements of major alternative energy and advanced battery projects in our state helped me make the case that Michigan is the best place in North America for global companies in these fields to locate or expand," Granholm said.
In her remarks to the Japan-Midwest U.S. Association Conference, the governor formally invited association members to Detroit, site of the 2010 conference. The association was formed in 1967 to foster better business relations between 10 Midwestern states and 75 top Japanese businesses. Approximately 400 people attended this year's conference, including U.S. and Japanese business executives, government leaders and trade officials.
This trip to Japan was the governor's ninth overseas investment mission since 2004. Her previous missions to Austria, Belgium, Germany, Israel, Japan, Jordan and Sweden have resulted in 45 companies announcing over $955 million in new investment in Michigan and more than 10,800 jobs created and retained.
