LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the announcement that Vanguard Health Systems of Tennessee is planning to acquire the Detroit Medical Center:
"The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) has a great history of providing the most vulnerable citizens in Detroit and Southeast Michigan with high-quality health care, and it is our expectation that the DMC's ongoing commitment to that mission will remain unchanged. The proposed acquisition of the DMC by Vanguard Health Systems of Tennessee has the potential to stabilize the hospital's future in Detroit and could help strengthen the economic resurgence in the city and the surrounding area through investment and job-creation."
