Governor Granholm Announces Appointments to Boards of Control for Central Michigan, Ferris State, Northern Michigan and Oakland Universities

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced appointments and reappointments to the Boards of Control for the following universities:

Central Michigan University Board of Control

Ronald C. Edmonds of Midland, vice president and controller of The Dow Chemical Company, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  He succeeds Gail Torreano whose term will expire.

Kevin F. Kelley of Redford, director of senior and veterans services for Wayne County, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  He succeeds Stephanie Comai whose term will expire.

Robert F. Wardrop II of Grand Rapids, president and attorney with Wardrop & Wardrop, P.C., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  He succeeds Jacqueline Garrett who has resigned.

Ferris State University Board of Control

Edward L. Haynor of Newaygo, president of Haynor Educational Services, Inc., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  He succeeds James Haverman whose term will expire.

D. William Lakin, O.D. of Clinton Township, optometrist and owner of Family Eye Care Associates, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  He succeeds Patrick LaPine who has resigned.

Larry L. Leatherwood of Lansing, executive consultant, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  He succeeds R. Thomas Cook whose term will expire.

Northern Michigan University Board of Control

Larry C. Inman of Williamsburg, Grand Traverse county commissioner, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.

Douglas B. Roberts, Ph.D. of East Lansing, professor and director of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.

Oakland University Board of Control

Ronald E. Robinson of Clinton Township, certified public accountant in private practice, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 11, 2018.  He succeeds Dennis Pawley whose term will expire.

Mark E. Schlussel of Southfield, attorney in private practice, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 11, 2018.  He succeeds Ann Nicholson whose term will expire.

Jayprakash B. Shah of Bloomfield Hills, vice president of Somat Engineering, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 11, 2014.  He succeeds Ganesh Reddy who has resigned.

These boards of control act as the governing body for the universities.  Duties include overseeing conduct of university affairs; maintaining control of university property and the ability to fix tuition and other fees; appointing and/or removing personnel; and determining compensation to be paid for services and property.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
