LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission
Mumtaz P. Haque of Troy, producer and host of the Manoranjan Radio Show, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Ramesh C. Verma of Novi, retired, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
H. Sook Wilkinson, Ph.D. of Bloomfield Hills, licensed clinical psychologist, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Leslie Wong, Ph.D. of Marquette, president of Northern Michigan University, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Peter K. Wong of Grosse Pointe Farms, president and CEO of Roy Smith Company, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, recently reorganized by Executive Order 2009-21, is charged with promoting awareness of the Asian and Pacific American community in the areas of economic development, social and cultural issues.
These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation
Thomas C. Kinnear of Ann Arbor, Eugene Applebaum professor of entrepreneurial studies at the University of Michigan Business School, is reappointed to represent statewide organizations exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code for a term expiring June 13, 2013.
The Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation Board of Directors works to promote a healthy economic climate by fostering job creation, retention, and expansion through the promotion of investment in venture capital businesses specializing in early stage and seed investments. The Venture Michigan Fund invests only in venture capital companies that have a significant presence in Michigan, and focuses on companies that will invest in Michigan-based, start-up companies that are engaged in research, technology, and new product development.
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Home Based Child Care Council Board of Directors
Earlie Mae Washington, Ph.D. of Kalamazoo, dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Western Michigan University, is reappointed to represent child- care advocates or current consumers of child-care services for a term expiring September 7, 2013.
The Michigan Home Based Child Care Council's focus is on improving the quality of child care provided in home settings in Michigan. It is charged with making recommendations to public agencies, public bodies, or public officials regarding regulations, legislation, appropriations, and programs in regard to the system of providing child care in Michigan.
This reappointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Parole and Commutation Board
James E. Atterberry, Sr. of Benton Harbor, current parole board member, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Paul F. Condino of Southfield, current parole board member, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Barbara S. Sampson of Detroit, current parole board member, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
Laurin' C. Thomas of Dimondale, current parole board member, is reappointed for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
The Michigan Parole and Commutation Board is charged with conducting and administering effective implementation of the corrections policy and reviewing and considering parole and commutation requests.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons
James W. Sellman of Saugatuck, real estate salesperson with Shoreline Realtors, is reappointed to represent real estate brokers and salespersons for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Sheri M. Sutherby-Fricke of Wyandotte, licensed realtor in sales and consulting with Real Estate One, is reappointed to represent real estate brokers and salespersons for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
The Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons provides for the licensing and regulation of real estate salespersons and real estate brokers, including anyone who acts as a real estate appraiser, real estate mortgage broker, building job broker, business chance broker, and/or engages in the sale of real estate as a principal vocation.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
