Governor Granholm's Statement on U.S. Senate's Vote to Extend Unemployment Benefits

July 20, 2010
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate's vote to extend unemployment benefits:
"On behalf of the tens of thousands of Michigan workers whose unemployment benefits recently expired, I commend the U.S. Senate for supporting the extension of these benefits. After weeks of Republican obstructionism, today's vote paves the way for people who are unemployed through no fault of their own to have the resources they need to help make ends meet. I want to thank those senators, especially Senators Stabenow and Levin, who fought for this extension.
"I appreciate the previous efforts of the U.S. House to extend these benefits and urge final action to send this bill to President Obama for his signature."
