Governor Granholm's Statement on Detroit City Council's Mayoral Accountability Vote

July 29, 2010

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement following the Detroit City Council's mayoral accountability vote:

"I am deeply disappointed that the voters of Detroit were denied the right to take part in moving their schools forward.  I am grateful that council members Charles Pugh, Gary Brown and Saunteel Jenkins demonstrated their trust and respect in Detroit voters by electing to give them the final say on this issue.  Today's vote by the council cannot be the final word for Detroit's children, and I am prepared to work with community leaders and others to bring change for better schools."
