Governor Granholm Appoints Blockett to Civil Service Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointment to the Civil Service Commission: 

Mr. Charles Blockett, Jr., an independent, of Lansing, president of Charles Blockett, Jr. & Associates, Inc., is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  He succeeds Kelly G. Keenan who has resigned.

Blockett brings 45 years of experience in human resource administration to his new position, including 15 years as director of the state of Michigan's selection and/or classification system for state employees.  Today his firm provides a full range of personnel services including executive searches and recruitment, development of customized assessment tools, classification and compensation studies, performance evaluation systems, employee handbooks and human resources policies and procedures.   He is a former consultant with the National Academy of Public Administration, and is a past-president and honorary life member of the International Personnel Management Association, which he has represented in Europe, Africa, Asia and Canada. 

The Civil Service Commission, a bipartisan entity, is responsible for examining candidates for state jobs on the basis of merit, efficiency and fitness: classify all positions, and determine the pay for each position.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
