LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm tonight extended congratulations to Governor-elect Rick Snyder on his election and pledged to help facilitate a smooth transition for the incoming administration. The governor and governor-elect are expected to meet Wednesday morning prior to Granholm's departure to South Korea for a four-day jobs and investment mission.
"I congratulate Rick Snyder on his election and have pledged that my administration will help facilitate a smooth transition as he prepares to become Michigan's 48th governor," Granholm said. "My administration stands ready to do everything necessary to ensure that Governor-elect Snyder and his team receive full cooperation and the administrative and technical support necessary to take up the mantle of governance starting January 1."
Governor Granholm also congratulated Democratic candidate Virg Bernero on his hard-fought campaign to succeed her in the governor's office. She called his effort "passionate and committed to a Main Street agenda."
The Granholm administration has been actively preparing for the gubernatorial transition for several months, with Mary Zatina coordinating the efforts as transition director. Additionally, Governor Granholm has designated her legal counsel, Steven Liedel, to serve as transition liaison to the Snyder transition team.
Governor Granholm and Governor-elect Snyder are scheduled to meet Wednesday morning in Detroit. A media advisory will be issued regarding the time and location.
