Governor Granholm Appoints Swanson to Civil Service Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointment to the Civil Service Commission:
Robert W. Swanson, Jr., a Democrat of Lansing, former director of the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. Swanson will succeed Sherry McMillan when her term expires on December 31, 2010.
Under Michigan's Constitution, the Civil Service Commission, a bipartisan entity, classifies positions in state classified civil service; fixes rates of compensation; approves or disapproves disbursements for all personal services; determines based on merit, efficiency, and fitness the qualifications of candidates for positions in the classified service; regulates all personnel transactions; and regulates all conditions of employment in the classified service.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
