Granholm Statement on U.S. Senate Vote to Extend Unemployment Benefits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 4, 2010

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the United States Senate vote to extend long-term unemployment benefits and support permanent tax cuts for the middle class.

"Today I thank members of the U.S. Senate who voted in favor of permanent tax cuts for middle class Americans as well as a long-term extension of unemployment insurance.  These actions are smart economic policy and will protect American families during difficult times.  It is unfortunate that some members of Congress have decided to hold average citizens hostage while demanding unaffordable tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.  I urge them to join their colleagues and approve tax cuts and an extension of unemployment insurance for the Americans who need it most."
