LANSING, MI - Governor Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Michael Hawks and Mike Morris to the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents.

"These individuals will provide leadership and experience as Eastern fulfills its critical mission of preparing students for future success," Snyder said.

Hawks, of East Lansing, is a partner at Lansing firm Governmental Consultant Services Inc.  He previously served as chief of staff for the majority floor leader in the Michigan House of Representatives and on the public affairs staff of the Speaker of the House before joining GCSI.  He played football for EMU while earning a bachelor's degree in business administration.  He also earned a master's degree in higher education administration from Michigan State University.

Morris, of Northville, rejoins the board after serving as a regent from 1997 to 2004.  He is president and chairman of AEP Energy in Ohio.  He previously served as president of Consumers Energy.  Morris earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in biology from Eastern.  He received the university's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1995.

The regents will serve eight-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2018.  Hawks will replace regent member Philip A. Incarnati and Morris will replace Gary Hawks.  Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
