LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced David Zurvalec will serve on the Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals.
The board reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration cases including safety and health citations, orders and appeals.
"David's professional experience and background will play a valuable role in implementing regulations and protecting the health and well-being of Michigan workers," Snyder said.
Zurvalec, of Brighton, retired as vice president of industrial relations for the Michigan Manufacturer's Association. He worked for MMA for 30 years and served as in-house counsel for the organization. Zurvalec previously served on the Michigan Employment Security Commission. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University and a law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School.
Zurvalec will represent the general public and replaces John Kuriakuz. He will serve as chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. The appointment is for a four-year term expiring March 18, 2015. The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
