LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Scott M. Koenigsknecht to the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System Board.

The board is responsible for general oversight of retirement, survivor and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts and certain community colleges and universities.

"Scott's background in the education field will help him to provide valuable insight and input to the board as it works to provide retirement options for public school employees," Snyder said.

Koenigsknecht, of Fowler, has served as the Montcalm Area ISD superintendent since July 2007. Before that, he was principal and also superintendent of Fowler Public Schools between 2001 to 2007. Koenigsknect has held professional education positions in Grandville and Portland Schools and Central Michigan University. He earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree and a doctorate in education from Central Michigan University.

Koenigsknect represents school system superintendents and replaces Dr. Susan Meston. He will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring March 30, 2013. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
