LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Lisa A. Klaeren chair of the Workers' Compensation Board of Magistrates.
The Workers' Compensation Board of Magistrates hears administrative claims for benefits and resolve disputes arising under the Workers' Disability Compensation Act.
"Lisa has served the board well and I am confident she will continue to help resolve issues fairly and efficiently involving workers' compensation," Snyder said.
Klaeren, of Kalamazoo, has been serving as a magistrate since 2008. She previously worked as a senior staff attorney for Hartford Insurance, specializing in workers' compensation litigation. Before that, Klaeren was an associate attorney for Chamber Steiner P.C. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Kalamazoo Bar Association. Klaeren served as a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Task Force on Vocational Rehabilitation. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Michigan University and a law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Klaeren is appointed chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor and replaces G. Jay Quist. Her appointment as chairperson is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
