LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed John Hyka and Patrick Monks to the Michigan Board of Respiratory Care.
The board oversees the licensing requirements and standards for respiratory therapists.
"I am confident John and Patrick will use their talents and expertise to assist the board in providing the best care and service to the citizens of Michigan," Snyder said.
Hyka, of Shelby Township, is a registered respiratory therapist and critical clinical coordinator for respiratory care services at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital. He previously served as a neonatal and pediatric respiratory therapist at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Hyka is a member of the National Board for Respiratory Care, the American Association of Respiratory Care and the Michigan Society for Respiratory Care. He earned a bachelor's degree from Siena Heights University in health care management and is pursuing a master's degree in administration from Central Michigan University. Hyka represents respiratory therapists and fills a newly created position.
Monks, of Clinton Township, is a nurse recruiter for St. John Providence Health System. He previously served as a talent search intern for St. John Providence and as the program developer and co-coordinator for the Central Michigan University Leadership Institute. Monks earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from CMU. He represents the general public and fills a newly created position.
Appointees will serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2014, and are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
