LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Susan Haroutunian to the Utility Consumer Participation Board.

The board provides grants to qualified applicants of Michigan's residential energy (gas, electric and other fuel) utility customers at proceedings before the Michigan Public Service Commission.

"Susan has an outstanding background in the legal field and her skills will benefit the board's work," Snyder said.

Before that, she was an associate attorney with both Vandeveer Doelle Garzia Tonkin & Kerr and the U.S. Department of Labor in Detroit. Haroutunian is a founding member of the Wayne County Republican Committee and is an alternate member of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers. Haroutunian earned both a bachelor's degree and law degree from Wayne State University.

Haroutunian will serve a two-year term expiring Jan. 13, 2013, and replaces Marc Schulman. The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
