Governor appoints Joni James to podiatric medicine and surgery board

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Joni James of Lachine to the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. 

The board licenses and regulates the practice of podiatric medicine and surgery in Michigan.

"I am confident Joni's background and experience in the medical field and as a physician's assistant will play a vital role on the board," Snyder said. 

James is a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery at Alpena Regional Medical Center. She previously served as a registered nurse in numerous capacities throughout Northern Michigan. James earned an associate's degree in nursing from Alpena Community College, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Lake Superior State University and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant degree from Central Michigan University. She will represent physician's assistants and fills a vacancy.

James will serve a four-year term expiring June 30, 2015, and her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
