February 27, 2012
LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Sally Laukitis, of Holland, to the Michigan Travel Commission.
The commission, housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, works with a variety of associations and non-profit corporations and organizations to develop, promote and enhance Michigan's travel and tourism industry.
"Sally brings extensive experience in marketing all our Great Lakes state has to offer," said Snyder. "She is a great addition to this commission."
Laukitis has served as the executive director of the Holland Area Convention & Visitor's Bureau since 1994. She previously worked as sales director and guide coordinator for the Bureau and as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines in Florida. Laukitis is founder and chairperson of the Visitor Industry Planning Initiative, president of the Michigan Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus and the Tourism Industry Coalition of Michigan, and serves as secretary for the Lake Michigan Beachtowns Cooperative Partnership. She received a bachelor's degree in English from DePauw University in Indiana.
Laukitis will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring August 20, 2014, following the resignation of Michael Patrick Shiels. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
