Snyder makes appointment to Board of State Canvassers
June 27, 2012
LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Colleen Pero, of Laingsburg, to the Board of State Canvassers.
Created by the state Constitution of 1850, the board oversees the canvassing and certifying of statewide elections, adopting of ballot language for statewide ballot proposals and other tasks. The four-person panel is made up of two representatives from the two main political parties.
"Colleen brings extensive experience to the board and I am confident she will effectively serve the people of Michigan in this role," said Snyder.
Pero is vice president of Pero Consulting Inc., a public affairs consulting firm based in Laingsburg. Previously, she served as former Gov. John Engler's special counsel and director of state affairs, as co-director of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University and as a senior analyst with Gulf Oil Corp. Pero serves as co-chair of the Michigan Council on Citizen Diplomacy and is a board member for the State Bar board of commissioners, Michigan Political Leadership Program and Montessori Children's House. She holds a bachelor's degree in business and tourism from Michigan State University, a master's degree in business administration from the Thunderbird School of International Management in Arizona and a law degree from the University of Houston. Pero replaces Jeffrey Timmer, who resigned.
Pero will serve the remainder of a four-year term that expires Jan. 31, 2013, and her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
