LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of John Axe, of Grosse Pointe Farms, to the Michigan Judges Retirement System Board.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget's Office of Retirement Services, the five-member board oversees the Judges Retirement System Defined Benefit plan.

"John brings years of experience to this post, and I am confident he will assist the board in effectively overseeing retirement matters for Michigan's judges," said Snyder.

Axe is president of Axe & Ecklund PC and is a permanent adjunct faculty at the Wayne State University Law School. Previously, he was the sole proprietor of John R. Axe and Associates, and was a partner with various southeast Michigan law firms. Axe co-authored Michigan Municipal Law, a two-volume work published in 1981 by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education for the University of Michigan. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Harvard University. Axe will represent the general public and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Rick Simonson.

Axe will serve the remainder of a four-year term that expires March 31, 2015, and his appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
