Governor makes appointment to Michigan Historical Commission
March 21, 2013
LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Joan Capuano, of Grosse Pointe Farms, to the Michigan Historical Commission.
Since 1913, the Michigan Historical Commission has been the public agency for state history programs and is responsible for approving Michigan historical markers. The seven-member council includes appointments made by the governor, speaker of the House and Senate majority leader.
"Preserving and promoting our state's outstanding historical significance is of great importance, and I am confident Joan will effectively serve in this role," said Snyder.
Capuano is executive director of the Detroit-based Historic Elmwood Foundation, a position she has held since 2006. She previously worked for Ameritech, and served as director of corporate strategy and personnel administration and as staff manager within the corporate strategy, regulatory and legal divisions. Capuano holds a certificate in business finance and tax from the Institute for Paralegal Training in Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Michigan. She will represent the general public and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Ranville.
Capuano will serve the remainder of a four-year term that expires May 21, 2013, and her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
