Hertel reappointed to Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority

Gov. Rick Snyder today reappointed John C. Hertel, of Lenox Township, to the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority Board of Commissioners.

Hertel, who will continue to represent electors of the metropolitan district, is general manager of the SMART Regional Transit System, which serves Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. He previously was chief executive of Detroit Regional Mass Transit, chairman of the Huron-Clinton Metro Parks board of trustees, and general manager of the Michigan State Fair and Exposition Center, respectively. He also served as a state senator from 1974 to 1983. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from Wayne State University.

Hertel will serve a four-year term expiring May 2, 2017. The appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

"I thank John for his continued service on the board as it works to improve the metroparks system," Snyder said.

The board governs the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority through the approval of expenditures, acquiring lands, planning of new parks and facilities, and other regional recreational matters.
