Snyder makes appointments, reappointment to Public School Employees Retirement Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Mike Engle, of Hastings, and Christine Veld, of Scotts, and the reappointment of Dr. Scott Koenigsknecht, of Fowler, to the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System Board. 

The Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System Board provides oversight of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System. 

“These appointees are highly qualified and bring years of experience to the board, and I appreciate their willingness to serve,” Snyder said. 

Engle is an educator at Hastings High School, where he has taught for 14 years. He teaches economics and advanced placement government. He is also the varsity girls basketball coach. Engle graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and received his officer’s commission in the United States Army. He served in the Army as an aviation officer for seven years. Engle also earned a master’s of education degree in social science from Troy State University. He will represent classroom teachers and replaces Jonathan Fielbrandt. 

Veld is the human resources coordinator at Vicksburg Community Schools, a position she has held since 2002. She is responsible for maintaining all personnel files and processing all new hires, updating the seniority list for three bargaining units with the school district, and administering workers’ compensation, unemployment claims and Family Medical Leave Act requests. Previously, she worked as human resources administrator for the Climax-Scotts Community Schools, field account manager for Nestle USA in Northville and as a human resources assistant for the Visiting Nurse Association of Southwest Michigan. She received her bachelor’s degree in management from Michigan State University. Veld will represent active or retired noncertified educational support positions and replaces Diana Osborn. 

Koenigsknecht is the Montcalm Area ISD superintendent, where he has served since July 2007. He previously was the high school principal and superintendent of Fowler Public Schools. He also held professional education positions with Grandville and Portland schools and at Central Michigan University. Koenigsknecht holds a master’s degree in educational administration and a doctorate in education leadership, both from Central Michigan University. He will represent school superintendents. 

Appointees will serve four-year terms expiring March 30, 2017, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
