LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder issued the following statement after the election of Mike Duggan as Detroit mayor:

"I want to congratulate Mike Duggan on being elected as the next mayor of Detroit. I look forward to working with him on making Detroit a safe and attractive place for people to live, work, invest, and do business. Mayor-elect Duggan's financial acumen and experience in turning around the Detroit Medical Center and other entities should serve him well in his new role.

"These are challenging times for our state's largest city as we resolve problems that have been decades in the making. But I know that brighter days are ahead and Detroit's turnaround is already underway. My administration and I are committed to working collaboratively with Mayor-elect Duggan to ensure better services to the 700,000 people of Detroit and take the steps necessary to complete Detroit's comeback as a vibrant, thriving city.

"I also want to salute Mayor Dave Bing for his service to Detroit. His dedication to the city and its people is clear to all, especially those of us who have worked closely with him."
