Portion of Interstate 96 in West Michigan named for fallen policeman
December 10, 2013
LANSING, Mich. - A bill designating a portion of Interstate 96 as the “Officer Trevor Slot Memorial Highway” was signed by Gov. Rick Snyder today.
The stretch of interstate honoring Officer Slot runs west from Fruit Ridge Avenue in Walker to 16th Avenue in Ottawa County.
“Designating this portion of I-96 for Officer Slot will help residents honor and remember the sacrifice he made in service of his community,” Snyder said.
Slot was a nine-year veteran of the Walker Police Department. He was killed in the line of duty in 2011 on this stretch of I-96 being named in his honor while assisting police chasing a pair of armed bank robbers. Slot had pulled his car over to deploy stop sticks when the suspects struck and killed him.
House Bill 5002, sponsored by state Rep. Rob VerHeulen, is now Public Act 181 of 2013.
