Snyder makes appointments to Board of Psychology

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Mindy Fernandes, of Walled Lake, and Lisa Gray, of Merrill, to the Michigan Board of Psychology.

The nine-member board, housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of health practitioners, and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.

“I appreciate the willingness of Mindy and Lisa to serve on this important board,” Snyder said.

Gray is the director of compliance and risk management at Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union, where she ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations through policy, procedures, and training and manages risks across the organization through effective risk measuring and monitoring. She has served in various roles at the credit union since 1990, including compliance specialist, special projects coordinator, marketing director, and administrative assistant. Gray holds a BS from Michigan State University. She will represent the general public and replaces Monica Navarro.

Fernandes is an association manager at Association Management Resources where she serves as the manager for the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering. She previously served as the campaign coordinator for community/business outreach for Divided We Fail, director of government relations for Metropolitan Consolidated Association of Realtors, executive director of the Washtenaw County American Heart Association, and director of grassroots from the Small Business Association of Michigan. Fernandes holds degrees in physical therapy from Ithaca College and political science from Kalamazoo College. She will represent the general public and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Lori Swartz.

Gray will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2017. Fernandes will serve the reminder of a term expiring Dec. 31, 2014. Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
