September 18, 2014
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Stephen Olsen, of Chelsea, to the State Teacher Tenure Commission.
The commission acts as a board of review for all teacher tenure cases appealed from the decision of a controlling board.
“I thank Stephen for his willingness to serve and I am confident he will make positive contributions to the board,” Snyder said.
Olsen is an attorney at R. Stephen Olsen and a member of the board of education in the Chelsea School District. He served in the Air Force, where he was stationed in Okinawa at the National Security Agency. Olsen earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Oakland University and a law degree from the University of Michigan. He represents boards of education and replaces James Petrie.
Olsen will serve a five-year term expiring Aug. 31, 2019. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
