LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Paul Welday, of Farmington Hills, to the State Officers Compensation Commission.

The SOCC is a seven-person board responsible for determining the salaries and expense allowances of the attorney general, secretary of state, justices of the Michigan Supreme Court, members of the Legislature, lieutenant governor and governor.

"Paul has a strong leadership background. I am confident he will bring fair and valuable insights to the commission," Snyder said.

Welday is a managing partner of Superior Capitol Consulting. He serves as senior counselor to the Washington, D.C.-based Watts Partners Inc. government affairs consulting firm and is president of Renaissance Strategies LLC. He has experience working with both the Michigan House of Representatives and the U.S. House of Representatives. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and replaces Bill Martin, who resigned.

Welday will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Jan. 1, 2016. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
