The seven-member volunteer board oversees admissions and member affairs at the state’s veterans' homes in Marquette and Grand Rapids. Members represent the interest of veterans in both advisory and advocacy roles and are nominated for board service by fellow veterans and peers in veteran’s organizations across the state.

"Paul brings valuable experiences to the board and I am confident he will do great work on behalf of Michigan’s veterans," Snyder said.

Potter is managing partner of PFB Capital Management and Investments. He is a founding member and serves as chairman of the Kent County Veterans Services, a member of the endowment board of the Grand Rapids Symphony, a member of the VFW, Rockford Post, and the West Michigan Alliance. Potter served in the U.S. Army, 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam and was a recipient of the U.S. Army Combat Infantryman Badge. He earned a GRI designation from the school of business at the University of Michigan. He represents Veterans of Foreign Wars and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Ernest Meyers.

Potter will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Feb. 28, 2017. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
