Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Statewide Independent Living Council

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Kelsey Kleimola, of Ypsilanti, and James Whalen, of Port Huron, to the Statewide Independent Living Council.
The 15-member council works to ensure statewide representation of residents with disabilities.
“I thank Kelsey and James for their willingness to serve on this council on behalf of Michiganders with disabilities,” Snyder said.
Kleimola is a customer service representative with Stateside BPO. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College. Kleimola will represent organizations that provide services for individuals with disabilities and fills a vacancy.
Whalen is executive director of Blue Water Center for Independent Living and previously served as the executive director of the Adaptable Incorporated Center for Independent Living. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central College, a master’s degree from Drake University, a doctorate in counselor education and an educational specialist degree from the University of Iowa. He represents directors of centers for independent living and fills a vacancy.
Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
