Gov. Rick Snyder appoints attorney Michael Pope to 32nd Circuit Court

LANSING, Mich.  – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Michael Pope, of Ironwood, to the 32nd Circuit Court in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties.

“Michael has a wide range of legal experience, a reputation of professional integrity, and a love for his community” Snyder said. “I am confident that his service on the bench will be an asset to the residents of Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties.”

Pope has been in private practice with Dean and Pope since 1993, focusing on a general insurance defense practice, including products liability, workers’ compensation, property claims, banking, business, criminal, real estate, family, and corporate law. He also teaches criminal law at Gogebic Community College. He currently serves on the board of the Ironwood-Hurley Rotary, is a member of the Ironwood Area Jaycees, and has been active in the Gogebic County Victim Services and a coach of youth sports. Pope earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and history from Alma College and a law degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy Law School. He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Roy D. Gotham.

Pope must seek election in Nov. 2016 for the remainder of the term and again in 2020 for a full term.
