Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Ann Gabrielle Kroneman, of Okemos, and the reappointments of Stephen Epstein, of West Bloomfield, Kevin Philipps, of Kentwood, and Larry Ward, of Williamston, to the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board.

The board is responsible for general oversight of retirement, survivor and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts, and certain community colleges and universities.

“I look forward to the work that these members will continue to do to provide retirement options for public school employees,” Snyder said.

Appointment:
Kroneman is the executive director of human resources at Lansing Community College. She provides human resources guidance and direction to the various college divisions and offices, including providing oversight of the department’s daily operations and ensuring budget accountability. Kroneman earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Michigan State University. She will represent community college administrators or trustees and replaces Tim Nelson.

Reappointments:
Epstein is a retired administrative and marketing partner of the Detroit office of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, where he worked with retail clients and vehicle dealerships.  Since his retirement, he has been involved with the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants Professional Ethics Task Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. Epstein will continue to represent the general public with experience in investment. 

Philipps is the assistant superintendent of business at East Grand Rapids Public Schools. He previously served as director of business and management service for Richmond Community Schools and worked in accounting and financial management positions at GMAC and Detroit Center Tool. Philipps earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Adrian College and a master’s in business administration and finance from Wayne State University. He will continue to represent school finance or operations managers who are not superintendents. 

Members will serve four-year terms expiring March 30, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
