LANSING, Mich. – Jaime Casap, Google’s Chief Education Evangelist, will deliver the keynote message at the 2016 Governor’s Economic and Education Summit on Tuesday, Gov. Rick Snyder said.

“We’re very fortunate to have Jaime Casap bring Google’s innovative message on how to tie education and careers together to Michigan for this year’s summit,” Snyder said. “We’re focused on making Michigan the number one place for talent and I look forward to hearing Jaime’s insights on how we can continue toward that goal.”

As Google’s chief education evangelist, Casap is responsible for working across all internal teams at Google that impact education, and he also works with educational organizations around the world, helping them find ways to improve the quality of education through technology. Casap was part of the original team that launched Google Apps for universities, launched Google Apps into K-12, and helped get Chromebooks off the ground and into schools.

The 2016 Governor’s Economic and Education Summit, taking place Tuesday, March 15 at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, will bring together more than 600 educators, business leaders and workforce professionals from across Michigan to collaborate on solutions for attracting world-class talent and retaining the workers who already call Michigan home.

“Improving talent development means helping educators understand the needs of job providers, providing businesses the opportunity to craft future talent, and preparing jobseekers for in-demand careers,” Snyder said. “Michigan is the comeback state, with nearly 440,000 private sector jobs created in the past five years. We have much to be proud of, but we can still do more to connect our education and business communities.”

Other speakers will include Gov. Snyder, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, Michigan Teacher of the Year Rick Joseph, and State Superintendent Brian Whiston. The summit will also include breakout sessions in the areas of talent attraction, retention and development.

In addition, the event will showcase successful strategies of educators, businesses and community leaders from across the state in developing, attracting and retaining talent in Michigan.

Registration is still open for the event at www.ges2.org. All summit general sessions will be live-streamed at www.michigan.gov/snyderlive.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Media are welcome to attend the entire summit and must present valid press credentials on-site. The full summit agenda is available at ges2.org. A media availability will be held with Gov. Snyder and Jaime Casap late morning.
