LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Edgar Roy, of Traverse City, and the reappointment of Jim Hammill, of Crystal Falls, to the Michigan Wildlife Council.
Established in 2013, the Michigan Wildlife Council was created to educate the public about the beneficial aspects of hunting and fishing and the essential role that sportsmen and sportswomen play in wildlife conservation. The nine-member council includes the director of the Department of Natural Resources or his designee and eight additional members appointed by the governor.
“I look forward to the work these appointees will do to inform Michiganders about how our state’s world-class natural resources are protected and managed for current and future generations,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Roy is an attorney with Kuhn, Rogers, PLC. Previously he practiced with Brandt, Fisher, Alward and Roy, PC. Roy holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a law degree from the University of Detroit Law School. He will represent individuals who have purchased hunting or fishing licenses in Michigan at least once during each of the past three years and replaces Alan Taylor.
Reappointment:
Hammill is the president of the Northwoods Chapter of Safari Club International and runs a land consulting and management business in the Upper Peninsula. He is a certified plan writer for the DNR and USDA as well as a certified timber marker and cruiser for the DNR. Hammill earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Adrian College and studied wildlife management at Michigan State University. He will continue to represent individuals who have purchased hunting or fishing licenses in Michigan at least once during each of the past three years.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring March 31, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
