Thursday, April 21, 2016

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of C. David Teeter, of Detroit, and Roy Finkenbine, of Detroit, to the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission.

The commission preserves and promotes the legacy of the Underground Railroad's Freedom Trail in Michigan.

"I am pleased to have both David and Roy continue to serve on this board and I am confident they will continue to do great work on behalf of the people of Michigan in these roles," Snyder said.

Teeter is a public policy analyst in the legislative policy division for the City Council of Detroit. He currently sits as the chair of the Board of Trustees for the First Congregational Church of Detroit, is secretary of the Board of Directors of Detroit Together Men’s Chorus, and is a co-facilitator of the Garden Club of the East English Village Community Association. Teeter holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and history from the University of Idaho, and a master’s degree in anthropology from Wayne State University. He will continue to represent a local community in which the Underground Railroad had presence.

Finkenbine is a professor of history and is the director of the Black Abolitionist Archive at the University of Detroit Mercy. Finkenbine has consulted on museum exhibits on the Underground Railroad for the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Historical Museum, and the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, as well as documentary films and television programs for Eden Road Pictures and NBC-TV. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Taylor University, a master’s degree in history from Northern Arizona University, and a doctorate from Bowling Green State University. He will continue to represent the academic community.

Appointees will serve four-year terms expiring Feb. 1, 2020. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
