Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Michigan Finance Authority

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of William Beekman of East Lansing to the Michigan Finance Authority.

Housed in the Department of Treasury, the seven-member Michigan Finance Authority offer effective, low-cost financing to public and private agencies providing essential services to residents of Michigan. No more than three members may be from the same political party.

“William’s experience and service in helping others succeed makes him an excellent choice for this position,” Snyder said.

Beekman is the vice president and secretary of the MSU Board of Trustees. Beekman was senior consultant to the provost, vice president of academic affairs, and vice president of finance and operations. He was lead information technology director for the College of Human Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Nursing, and the MSU HealthTeam. He also was assistant dean of planning and finance, for the College of Human Medicine.

Beekman holds a bachelor of arts degree from Michigan State University, a masters of business administration from the Kellogg School of Management, and a law degree from Wayne State University.

He will represent Independents and residents of this state with experience in issues relating to hospitals or other health facilities or relating to public finance.

Beekman will serve the remainding four-year term expiring Sept. 30, 2017. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
