Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Board of Counseling

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Robyn Emde of St. Joseph and Gerald Papazian of Lake Ann to the Michigan Board of Counseling.

Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board assists with the licensing and oversight of counselors in Michigan.

“I appreciate Robyn and Gerald’s continued service in providing oversight to the counseling profession in Michigan," Snyder said.

Emde serves as a counselor at Comfort in Counseling Robyn's Nest and Holland Public Schools. She is a member of the Michigan Counseling Association and the American Counseling Association. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from North Central University in Minnesota, a master's degree in counseling from Bethel College in Indiana, and is working toward a doctorate degree in counselor education supervision from Walden University. She will continue to represent those engaged primarily in teaching, training, or research in counseling. 

Papazian is owner of Northern Woods Counseling and Consulting and serves as an at-risk counselor for Elk Rapids Senior High School. Papazian is a member of the Michigan Counseling Association, the Michigan Association for Marriage and Family Counseling, and the Michigan Association for Clinical Counseling. He holds a bachelor's degree in history and physical education from Eastern Michigan University and a master's degree in educational psychology from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent those engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventive techniques to clients.

Members serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
