LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Travis Schunk of Clare, and the reappointment of Jill Sears of Horton to the Michigan Beef Industry Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the nine-member commission promotes the sale of beef and beef products within the state.
“These are highly qualified and experienced appointees, and I thank them for their willingness to serve,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Schunk worked as a herdsman for a prominent Michigan cattle operation and has a decade of experience in cattle procurement. He was the manager of contracting for Smithfield Beef Group. Schunk holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Oklahoma State University. He will represent meat packaging executives and replace John Vanderboon.
Reappointment:
Sears is the owner of Sears Farms. She has 3,600 acres of corn, hay, soybeans, and wheat, as well as 500 cows and 900 feeders. She will continue to represent cattle feeders.
Appointees serve three-year terms expiring May 31, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
