LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Michael Flynn of Shelby Township to the Michigan Education Trust (MET) board of directors.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, the nine-member board oversees the function of the MET program. The MET board also serves as an advisory board for the Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP). MESP is a Section 529 direct-sold college savings program that helps Michigan residents save for higher education.
"Michael brings years of financial experience to this board and I thank him for his commitment to serve," Snyder said.
Flynn is the treasurer of Shelby Charter Township and also serves as the treasurer and trustee of the Shelby Township Fire & Police Pension System. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. Flynn is the nominee of the Senate Majority Leader and replaces Sarah Richardville.
Flynn will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2017. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
