Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Michigan Veterans' Memorial Park Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jim Dunn of Mason, Christopher Nash of Mason, Lynn O’Brien of Milford and Jeffrey Schuett of Royal Oak to the Michigan Veterans’ Memorial Park Commission.

Housed within the Department of Technology, Management and Budget the seven member commission advises on the development, management, and maintenance of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Park in Lansing, the operation of programs exclusive to the park, and the security services and enforcement of rules for the care and preservation of the park.

“I am confident this group of individuals will do good work and I thank them for their commitment to serving and honoring Michigan’s veterans,” Snyder

Nash served for over six years in the U.S. Army as an armored crewman and a geospatial analyst. Since his departure from the Army in 2014, he has been active in suicide prevention within the online veterans’ community. Nash is currently a student at Lansing Community College. 

O’Brien is the director of district affairs for State Senator Mike Kowall. Previously, O’Brien was the planning aid for White Lake Charter Township. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Schuett is the Veterans’ Liaison for Veteran Support Services at Oakland University.  Previously, he served nine years active duty in the U.S. Navy and worked as a manager/process server/court courier for Urban Serving, LLC. Schuett is an undergraduate student at Oakland University studying political science.

Jim Dunn, serving as the designee of the Director of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will serve as chair at the pleasure of the governor.

Nash will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 18, 2016, O’Brien will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 18, 2018, and Schuett will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 18, 2017. The appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
