Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the State Fire Safety Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jeffrey Green of Marquette, Paul Korte of Southfield and Michael Powers of Rockford to the State Fire Safety Board. He also announced the appointment of Andrew Lenaghan as chair of the Board.

In cooperation with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs' Bureau of Fire Services and fire organizations throughout the state, the 17-member board assists with the development of fire safety rules for the construction, operation and maintenance of various public facilities.

"I thank this group for their willingness to serve on this important board and make recommendations on fire safety that will benefit all of Michigan," Snyder said.

Green is a fire investigator, EMT, and the captain of the Marquette Fire Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University. He will represent fire departments in the Upper Peninsula and replaces Dean Mallos.

Korte is the Corporate Director of Environmental Services with Ciena Healthcare. He is also a licensed residential builder and the owner of Korte’s Construction Company. Korte studied business at Henry Ford Community College. He will represent the nursing home industry and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of David Herbel.

Powers is the vice president of Allied Electric, Inc. He previously served on both the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Michigan and the West Michigan chapter as a board member and president.  Powers holds a certificate of business management from LaSalle University in Chicago. He will represent licensed electrical contractors or master electricians and replaces Thomas Lippens.

Korte will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring July 15, 2017. Lenaghan will serve a term as chair expiring at the pleasure of the governor. Other appointees will serve four-year terms expiring July 15, 2020. The appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
