Gov. Rick Snyder issued the following statement regarding the death of Esther Shapiro:

"Esther Shapiro was a fierce champion for the people of Detroit. She spent her life advocating for Detroiters as well as anyone else within her reach.  She will be dearly missed. I send my deepest condolences to her family and the community she served so well for so many years."
