LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Derek King of Ceresco to the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission.
The commission was created by PA 93 of 2013 to improve legal representation for low-income criminal defendants.
“Derek has experience in a variety of fields and his dedication to community service will be an asset to the commission,” Snyder said.
King is the owner of King Jewelers and DTK&F Holdings LLC, a multi-unit strip mall in Battle Creek. He also is the county board chairman for Calhoun County. King attended Kellogg Community College. He will represent local units of government and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jon Campbell.
King will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 1, 2019.
