Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment and reappointments to the Michigan Bean Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Kevin Noffsinger of Pinconning as well as the reappointments of Brain Stratton of Edmore and Ross Voelker of Pigeon to the Michigan Bean Commission.

The nine-member commission oversees research and promotes the bean industry in Michigan.

“I thank these individuals for serving on this commission and their commitment to Michigan’s agriculture industry,” Snyder said.

Appointment:
Noffsinger operates his family farm which has produced edible beans since 1960. He also worked for Mueller Bean Company in the marketing department and then as plant manager. During his tenure at Mueller Bean Company, he was in charge of receiving, processing, and shipping dry beans. Noffsinger holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering technology from Michigan State University.  He will replace Terry Schindler. 

Reappointments:
Stratton is the owner of Stratton Farm which grows dry beans, corn, and wheat. Stratton has experience in dairy operation, custom harvesting, and as a seed dealer. He previously served on the Montcalm County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and currently serves as Ferris Township Supervisor. Stratton holds an Agriculture Technology degree from Michigan State University.

Voelker is the owner/president of Greenfield Farm Inc. He previously served as a corporate accountant and assistant controller for Universal Forest Products Inc.  Voelker served in numerous capacities with the Farm Bureau, the Michigan Edible Bean Cooperative, and Innovative Farmer of Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance from Michigan State University.

Members will serve three-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
