Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Thomas Cameron of Northville Township as well as the reappointments of Jeffrie Cape of West Bloomfield, Jim Fink of Ypsilanti and Cris Sullivan of Potterville to the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board.

The seven-member Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board is housed within the Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for focusing state activity on domestic and sexual violence prevention and treatment. The board administers state and federal funding for domestic and sexual violence shelters and programs providing advocacy services, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner programs and Child Advocacy Centers; develops and recommends statewide policy; and develops and provides technical assistance and training.

“I thank these individuals for the important work they do advocating for the prevention of domestic and sexual violence. The experience they have will suit them well on this board and I am confident they will bring positive inputs to make Michigan a safer place,” Snyder said.

Appointment:

Cameron is the 3rd Circuit Court Judge in Wayne County and previously served as the Criminal Justice Bureau Chief for the Michigan Department of Attorney General. He fills a vacancy created by the passing of Jeffrey Sauter. 

Reappointments:

Cape is the director of Charron Services, is a licensed master social worker and serves as a member of the Batterer Intervention Coalition of Michigan. Cape holds a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Illinois and master's degree in social administration with a concentration in direct service, family and child specialization from Case Western Reserve University. 

Fink is an attorney with Fink & Valvo. He served more than 20 years in the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department. He also served as an officer in the Eastern Michigan University Police Department. Fink earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Eastern Michigan University and a law degree from Detroit College of Law. 

Sullivan is the director of Michigan State University’s Research Consortium on Genre-based Violence, and is a senior fellow of the University Outreach and Engagement. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's and doctorate degree in ecological community psychology, all from Michigan State University.

Cameron will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 4, 2018. Cape, Fink, and Sullivan will serve three-year terms expiring Dec. 4, 2019, and the appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
