Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointment to the Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of S. Tutt Gorman of Portland as well as the reappointment of Phillip Schertzing of Lansing to the Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council.
The council supports and enhances Michigan's homeland security, community health, public safety and hazard preparedness with responsible planning and leadership.
“I thank these two gentlemen for their commitment to serving the people of Michigan on this council and I am confident they will do a great job,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Gorman has served as Portland City Manager since June 2014. He is a member of the Michigan Local Government Management Association, the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys, and the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Gorman holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He will represent the general public and replaces William Fales.
Reappointment:
Schertzing is an academic/outreach specialist and assistant professor for the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. Previously, he spent 25 years in the Michigan State Police, retiring as an assistant commanding officer in the Emergency Management Division. Schertzing holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and a master’s degree in management, both from Aquinas College, and a Ph.D. in American History from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent individuals with technical expertise related to emergency response.
Gorman and Schertzing will serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2020.
