Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Michigan Board of Social Work

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Brian Philson of Horton and Marc Milburn of Houghton Lake to the Michigan Board of Social Work.

The nine-member board, housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.

“I thank Brian and Marc for their commitment to regulating the licenses of social workers therefore allowing the continued support of Michigan children and families,” Snyder said.

Philson is president and CEO of Highfield, Inc. He previously served two years as vice president of programming and 15 years as director of the Jackson County Youth Center. Philson holds a bachelor's in social work from Spring Arbor University and a master's degree in social work from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent professionals.

Milburn serves on the Roscommon County Board of Commissioners. He served 23 years in the U.S. military as a private, staff sergeant, and captain before joining the state of Michigan as a youth offender specialist. Milburn holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Eastern Michigan University and a master's degrees in political science from Central Michigan University. He also participated in Michigan State University's Michigan Political Leadership Program. He will continue to represent the general public.

Appointees will serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
