LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Leonard Kutschman of Oakland to the State Tax Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, the three-member board has general supervision for the administration of Michigan's property tax laws. It also provides guidance to local assessors on assessments and appeals. No more than two members can be from the same political party.
“I want to thank Leonard for his commitment to this commission. I am confident he will serve Michiganders well in this role due to his background in tax law,” Snyder said.
Kutschman is a property tax consultant for Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, and is a Michigan Master Assessing Officer. He is also Vice Chair of the Manton Area Heritage Restoration Group. Kutschman attended Lawrence Institute of Technology. He will represent Independents and certified assessors holding a Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer certificate or greater. He replaces Barry Simon.
Kutschman will serve a four-year term starting March 13, 2017 and expiring Dec. 27, 2020. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
